Our Vision

Our Refuge L.A. is a network of home groups/house churches. We are under the spiritual covering of Our Refuge in Pembroke, VA., a non-denominational Spirit filled community.

We envision a network of Home groups in the greater Los Angeles area where people partake in food & fellowship, worship & the word and can really get to know each other, support, encourage, minister to and love one another.

As the Lord builds His church, we plan on bringing all the home groups together for larger, corporate worship gatherings on a regular basis that still emphasizes relationship (food, fellowship, worship & the word), but the backbone and relationship focus of our community will always be our small, intimate house meetings.

"And all those who had believed were together and had all things in common; and they began selling their property and possessions and were sharing them with all, as anyone might have need. Day by day continuing with one mind in the temple, and breaking bread from house to house, they were taking their meals together with gladness and sincerity of heart, praising God and having favor with all the people. And the Lord was adding to their number day by day those who were being saved."

-Acts 2:44-47

Relationship is one of the core values of our community. While we appreciate and make room for talent and spiritual gifts, it is more important to us that we get to know each other and love one another intentionally and allow relationship to the be the foundation of everything we do as a community (Luke 10:27).

We believe in a community where “everyone gets to play.” By that, we mean everyone has gifts and talents and has something to offer to the community. We are not a spectator church. You may come into our community needing rest, or healing and we understand that may be necessary for a season, but part of our God designed growth happens through giving, not just receiving. God’s designed His body (the church) and the members of it to be interdependent of one another.

We desire to be a balanced community. We think it's important for healthy individuals and healthy community (family). We worship, pray & we study the Bible together. We minister to individuals and we minister as a group. We eat together (a lot, actually) and we celebrate people, events and important holidays and festivals. We have fun together, at the beach, out on the town, hiking, and concerts to name a few. We reach out and serve our community, partnering with other believers, ministries and churches to bring love, hope and change to our neighbors.

We do outreaches together, like "Treasure Hunts" (Looking for God's treasures: people), doing a "worship circle" and offering free prayer and encouragement on the Venice Beach Boardwalk, going to Radiance International House of Prayer to intercede for Hollywood or going to local music venues to support Christian musicians and artists.

We desire to have an impact on individuals in our community through our outreach and service. Two of the areas that are really on our heart are: The Homeless and the Foster Care system. Both are systemic issues in Los Angeles and they are connected. 50% of kids that "age out" of the Foster Care system (which is already problematic) end up on the streets. The Homeless population in Los Angeles went from 50,000 to 70,000 just in this last year. It is now estimated that just in the city of L.A., 82,000 people are living on the streets every night.

We hope to bring churches, charities, businesses and government together to address the issues and bring solutions to them.
